Huntington Beach

Signs warning swimmers about excessive levels of enterococcus bacteria in the ocean were removed Wednesday from a 3,700-foot stretch of Huntington State Beach, said Monica Mazur, an environmental health specialist with the Orange County Health Care Agency.

However, advisory placards remain standing in a 1,000-foot section of the beach near Newland Avenue.

Enterococcus bacteria may indicate the presence of other disease-producing organisms, Mazur said.

The signs first appeared in a 4,000-foot section of the state beach Monday.
