Project Sister in Pomona needs volunteers for its 24-hour sexual assault crisis hotline. A 40-hour training session begins Sept. 21. Information: (909) 623-1619.

* Anaheim Public Library needs adult tutors to assist other adults with reading, writing and spelling. A 15-hour training session is provided. Classes will be held Sept. 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Anaheim Central Library. Information: (714) 229-0435.

* KUSC-FM Radio (91.5), a public classical music station, needs volunteers to answer phones during its membership drive Sept. 27 through Oct. 7. No experience is necessary. Information: (213) 514-1411.

* Long Beach Area Literacy Council offers training for adult tutors in reading and writing Sept. 16 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Information: (562) 951-3637.

* Theodore Payne Foundation, a nonprofit California native plant nursery in Sun Valley, is holding an information meeting Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. for those interested in joining its sales yard and customer assistance volunteer training program. Information: (818) 768-1802.

* Pet Adoption Fund, a dog and cat rescue and adoption group, needs volunteers to assist at its Canoga Park shelter with walking, grooming and playing with the animals and driving them to and from the veterinarian.
