* The Proven: Junior Angela Won of University, the 1998 Orange County player of the year, was a semifinalist in the U.S. Girls Junior Championship last month. Priscilla Park, a Villa Park junior and 1999 player of the year, won an AJGA Tournament at La Purisima over the summer. Irvine senior Stella Lee won an AJGA tournament in Texas. Defending South Coast League champion Carling Cho, a junior at Dana Hills, was a six-time winner on the local junior circuit. University senior Sunny Lee was also among the top players on the local junior tour this summer. Santa Margarita senior Megan Mulhaupt was runner-up in the Serra League last year. Shelly Raworth of Villa Park is a two-time all-county selection.

* The Promising: Freshman Leisl Hasbrouck of Aliso Niguel should propel the Wolverines to the top of a tough league. Fountain Valley sophomore Minnie Choi surprised many by finishing second in the Sunset League as a freshman. Rosary freshman Jennifer Sanders has been among the top local junior players the last two years.

* Preseason Top 10: 1. University--Defending WSCGA champion is the team to beat for third consecutive year; 2. Villa Park--Fearsome twosome of Park and Raworth lead Spartans once again; 3. Santa Margarita--Mulhaupt leads defending Serra League champions; 4. Corona del Mar--Poised to give University a run in the Pacific Coast; 5. Irvine--Stella Lee may be county's best player; 6. Esperanza--Sophomore Kayley Parrett leads deep Aztecs; 7. Dana Hills--Carling Cho should have a breakout year after scorching summer; 8. Los Alamitos--Jamie Oliver and Michelle Eastlack make Griffins a Sunset contender; 9. Rosary--1998 Southern Section runner-up looks to rebound after rebuilding; 10. Aliso Niguel--Lost a lot of close matches last year, should win them this year with Hasbrouck.

* Key Dates: Nov. 6, Southern Section team divisional: North at Camarillo Springs GC, Camarillo; Central at Oak Valley GC, Beaumont; Southern at El Prado GC, Chino; Nov. 13, Southern Section team finals at Montecito CC, Santa Barbara; Nov. 21, Southern Section individual finals at Mission Lakes GC, Desert Hot Springs; Nov. 28, WSCGA tournament, SCGA Members' Club, Murrieta.
