After working on its next album in Vancouver, Canada, R.E.M. has relocated to Dublin to finish the recordings, due for spring release. Continuing the international theme, the Georgia band is set to make its first-ever South American appearance headlining a night of the Rock in Rio Festival in Rio de Janeiro on Jan. 13. . . .

A new Bangles song, "Ride the Ride," is being made available on the House of Blues Web site, http://www.hob.com, in advance of the reunited band's first tour in 11 years, which includes shows Sept. 21-23 at the House of Blues. The quartet debuted several new songs in a "public rehearsal" at Spaceland on Sept. 1. . . .

Alex Lifeson, guitarist of Rush, has composed and recorded the theme for "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda," a new series based on a concept by the late "Star Trek" creator. Lifeson says the martial track includes a full 20,000 guitar overdubs. The show premieres Oct. 7.
