Founded in 1978, the Pacific Symphony presents a variety of musical programs and outreach activities. The third-largest orchestra in California, the symphony's series at the Orange County Performing Arts Center offers classical masterworks with international soloists, pops concerts headlined by favorite performers, Saturday morning concerts for children and parents, and annual holiday concerts of Handel's "Messiah." Dedicated to the performance of music by living American composers, the orchestra has commissioned a number of works, including pieces by William Kraft and the PSO's former composer-in-residence Frank Ticheli.
