Secession's Impact

September 17, 2000

* "Official Fears Cultural Impact From Secession," Sept. 13.

San Fernando Valley secession would have little if any impact on the "downtown cultural establishment."

I am not surprised that Rodney Punt and other L.A. Cultural Affairs Department officials disagree. Jeff Brain of Valley VOTE was much closer to the mark regarding the Valley not diverting resources from the downtown cultural establishment. Likewise, he is absolutely on target regarding the Valley not getting a fair share of Cultural Affairs funds. I also remain convinced that current Cultural Affairs policies discriminate against recognition, appreciation, growth and development of traditional American cultural values. Cultural Affairs certainly discriminates against the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Valley Arts Directory. It is unfortunate that a few Valley City Council offices continue to be co opted by Cultural Affairs baloney.
