COLLEGE FOOTBALL SPOTLIGHT / WEEK 4

Leading Men

September 17, 2000

MICHAEL VICK

Quarterback, Virginia Tech

Hokie coaches flipped out after Vick somersaulted into the end zone for a touchdown only as he could. "I knew how I wanted to land," he said after rushing for 104 yards and passing for 120 in a 49-0 victory over Rutgers.

Season 25 carries, 219 yards, 4 TDs; 26 of 44 passing, 412 yards, 4 TDs

Next at Boston College, Sept. 30

*

LADAINIAN TOMLINSON

Running Back, TCU

As it stands, Tomlinson rushed for 243 yards on 39 carries, not to mention the 100 yards and two touchdowns that were erased because of holding calls in a 41-14 victory over Northwestern.

Season 63 carries, 419 yards, 5 TDs

Next Arkansas State, Saturday

*

CHRIS WEINKE

Quarterback, Florida State

The Seminoles are 64-2 since joining the ACC in 1992 and the 28-year-old Weinke did his part Saturday, completing 12 of 22 for 262 yards and four touchdowns in a 63-14 rout of North Carolina.

Season 69 of 110 passing, 1,023 yards, 8 TDs

Next Louisville, Saturday

*

DREW BREES

Quarterback, Purdue

Brees attempted an uncharacteristically low 22 passes, completing 13 for 221 yards in a 23-21 loss at Notre Dame. Brees put Purdue ahead, 21-20, with a touchdown pass but was denied a final chance at a come-from-behind victory--usuallythe lifeblood of Heisman campaigns.

Season 70 of 110 passing, 954 yards, 7 TDs

Next Minnesota, Saturday
