September 21, 2000|Deepa Bharath, (949) 574-4226

Police officers arrested two people early Tuesday on suspicion of breaking into the Gateway Country computer store in the 200 block of East 17th Street and stealing computer equipment worth $4,000.

Officers arrested Eric Fernandez, 29, and Yvonne Becerra, 25, both of Pico Rivera, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. John FitzPatrick.

The couple, driving a white Chevrolet Blazer, were stopped at 2 a.m. Tuesday, when officers responded to the store's alarm and saw the vehicle speeding away, FitzPatrick said.

Officers found the stolen computers in the trunk of the car, he said.

FitzPatrick said Fernandez and Becerra are also suspected of burglarizing several other Gateway Country stores in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The burglars entered the Costa Mesa store by smashing a window, he said.
