Von Krog Puts One Over Irvine

Kris Von Krog's shot over the head of goalkeeper Allison Merrick in the 69th minute gave Cal State Northridge a 1-0 victory over UC Irvine in a women's nonconference soccer game Friday at Irvine.

Northridge (2-4-3) won despite being outshot, 14-8.

Goalkeeper Jenny Willemse of Northridge made eight saves. Merrick had six saves for Irvine (5-2-1).

Pepperdine 3, Arizona 2--Stacia Spangler scored in the 84th minute to break a 2-2 tie in a nonconference game at Pepperdine.

Spangler's goal and an unassisted goal by Kate Desmond in the 49th minuterallied the Waves (6-1-1) from a 2-1 first-half deficit.

Lacey Ubaldi scored in the fifth minute, but Tiffany Sabado and Kristi Lorona scored in the next 10 minutes to give Arizona (1-5-1) a 2-1 lead.

Ventura 1, Canyons 0--Kelly Nash scored on a rebound from 10 yards in the 63rd minute in a Western State Conference interdivisional game at Canyons (5-4-2, 1-2).

J.J. Toohey was credited with an assist for Ventura (8-2-2, 2-1).

Moorpark 2, Citrus 0--Michelle Thuotte scored a goal and assisted on the other for the Raiders (2-5, 2-1) in a WSC interdivisional victory at Citrus.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Lutheran def. Whittier, 15-3, 15-12, 15-11--Sally Jahraus and Becky Sehenuk each had 11 kills for the Regals, who notched their 25th consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at Whittier.

Cal Lutheran, which had 12-0 conference records the last two seasons, is one victory shy of the SCIAC record of 26 consecutive conference victories by La Verne from 1987-90.

The Master's def. Hope International, 15-3, 15-17, 15-8, 15-9--Jordan Whittington had 13 kills and Lindsey Greene had 11 for the Mustangs in a nonconference match at the Master's.

Rosemary Franklin had five kills and 21 digs, and Sarah Oliver had eight kills and four blocks for Master's (5-9).

WRESTLING

Moorpark 22, Santa Ana 12--Saul Lucatero defeated Andrew Donaldson, 16-8, at 149 pounds to start a run of five consecutive victories for the Raiders in a nonconference dual meet at Moorpark.

Steve Hernandez (157 pounds), Larry Schneider (165) and Shannan Sams (184) won decisions, and Jeremiah Pederson won by forfeit at 174 pounds for Moorpark (5-1).
