The Planning Commission voted last week to approve plans for a 1.4-acre mosque to be built on a cul-de-sac at Truman north of Roosevelt.

The Islamic Center of Southern California asked to build a 10,200-square-foot mosque that would include a meeting area, library, dining area, kitchen, computer room and offices. The commission approved those plans Thursday, and issued a waiver of the city's 10-foot landscaping setback requirement to allow the building to be built at an angle so it can face Mecca.
