L.A. Daily News to Close 2 Special Editions

September 27, 2000|Jerry Hirsch

The Los Angeles Daily News plans to shutter two special editions that it published for Conejo and Simi valleys to redirect resources to the fast-growing Santa Clarita Valley, officials at the newspaper said. Bob Gray, vice president and general manager of the Woodland Hills-based newspaper, said the changes will take place at the end of this month and follow a reassessment of the publication's strategy. The paper is owned by Denver-based MediaNews Group. A third MediaNews holding, the San Bernardino County Sun, plans to launch a high desert edition Monday and has added 10 positions. The cutbacks by the Daily News follow a retrenchment by the Los Angeles Times earlier this month when it closed 14 Our Times community news sections to refocus news coverage on bigger regional stories.
