Outfielder Scott Signs With Brewers

Former Alemany High outfielder Bill Scott signed with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night and won't return to UCLA for his senior year.

Scott, who was an All-American last season for the Bruins, was drafted in the eighth round. Today was his deadline for deciding whether to sign because it's the first day of classes at UCLA.


* Chris Morgan, a Taft High receiver and defensive back, has committed to USC.

Morgan, 6-0 and 180 pounds, has 15 receptions for 248 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Morgan is also a top track athlete, having won the state championship in the 110-meter high hurdles and claiming the City Section hurdles and long jump titles. He finished second in the 100 meters.


* The Fairways Golf Classic, which benefits the Glendale Adventist Medical Center's emergency department, will be Oct. 16 at Oakmont Country Club.

Events begin at 9 a.m. with a putting contest. There will be a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m.

Golfers will receive a prize bag, cart, locker-room and driving-range privileges, breakfast, lunch and a buffet dinner.

Cost is $325 per person. Proceeds will assist in renovations and updating equipment.
