Gardening Program Starts in January

September 30, 2000

The University of California Master Gardening program is accepting applications for the new class, which begins Jan. 6.

The program is offered by the University of California Cooperative Extension. Class participants receive extensive horticultural training. Upon graduation, they are required to participate on an unpaid basis in Master Gardener programs, which provide important services to the community.

The class is open to all who have experience as a home gardener, want to learn more about horticulture and are willing to do volunteer work in their community.

During the training, students receive 50 hours of instruction from 8:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturdays. The $160 fee covers training, materials and first-year membership.

If you are interested, contact the UC Cooperative Extension office at (714) 708-1647 for information and an application. The filing deadline for applications is Oct. 16.
