September 30, 2000|KEVIN F. SHERRY

The Ventura County Republican Party will open an office today in Port Hueneme.

It's the party's sixth office in Ventura County.

Republicans in Port Hueneme said the new office should help rally voters to the polls for the November elections.

"There have been Republican clubs in the area, but never a headquarters," said Peggy Karns, the Port Hueneme chairwoman for the Ventura County Republican Party.

"I want to get the people in Port Hueneme interested in Republican politics. Hopefully we can recruit some new believers."

The new headquarters will host a grand opening reception from 1 to 3 p.m. today at 313 Port Hueneme Road.

"This is a very exciting time," said Jackie Rodgers, chairwoman of the county Republican Central Committee. "Volunteers will be doing phone banks, we'll be doing voter registration."
