Saarloos Pitches a Titan No-Hitter

Cal State Fullerton's Kirk Saarloos added another pitching gem to his collection Sunday, and this one turned out to be a no-hitter.

Saarloos walked one batter and hit another in the second inning, but was overwhelming the rest of the way in a 28-0 victory over Pacific in a Big West Conference game at Fullerton.

It was only the second nine-inning no-hitter for a Fullerton pitcher since it moved up to Division I in 1975. The other was by Ted Silva in 1995, also against Pacific. Longo Garcia pitched a five-inning no-hitter in 1987 against Long Beach State in a game that was stopped by rain.

"I was only supposed to go five or six innings after we got the big lead early, but I said I'd like to try for it after that," he said. The Titans led, 16-0, after three innings.

Saarloos retired 22 consecutive batters before a two-out infield error in the ninth inning, but he got the next batter to end the game. He struck out 11.
