Lancaster Wins With Four-Run Fifth, 6-4

Jason Williams' leadoff double sparked a four-run fifth and the Lancaster Jethawks defeated Visalia, 6-4, in a California League game Saturday night at the Hangar.

Williams and J.D. Closser each had two hits for Lancaster (11-6).

Bill Scott (Alemany High) was selected batter of the week in the Class-A California League for April 5-16.

Scott a designated hitter in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization, batted .429 (18 for 42) with three home runs and 20 RBIs. . . . The Florida Marlins purchased the contract of Ryan McGuire (El Camino Real, Moorpark College) on Monday, calling him up to the big leagues.

Jon Garland (Kennedy) has lost his first three starts for triple-A Charlotte in the Chicago White Sox chain. He has received only six runs of support.
