Couple Truly Made Their House a Home

April 29, 2001

Regarding "Mid-Century Bloomer" (Home of the Week by Ruth Ryon, April 15): I am quite sad to hear of the passing of Albert and Jeanne Collins. I was unaware that they owned that beautiful home. You see, to me, that's what it will always be ... a home, full of love, understanding and hope.

Since the late '80s, I have been flying over Los Angeles every day for a local radio station (KFWB [980]), and when I'm not trying to help you drive yourself out of trouble, I can't help but looking at the houses of L.A.

From the mansions of Beverly Gate to the small bungalows of South-Central, I have always wondered and hoped that they were indeed ... homes. I don't know what it is and perhaps I should not wonder, but the home of Albert and Jeanne ... it just always comforted me when going over my own shortcomings in life so far and made me smile with content knowing that I was doing the right thing. Be a good person, try to help those that you can, stay out of trouble ... think.

That's a lot to get out of looking down at wood, bricks and trees, but that's what that ... home ... will always do for me. There was something magical releasing to the heavens from that piece of Earth. I pray it will continue.
