A 56-year-old man was killed Saturday when he attempted to cross Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa and was struck by three cars, police said. The third driver, who fled the scene, is being sought.
The pedestrian, whose name was being withheld until his family could be notified, was leaving a Burger King at 9:21 p.m. and was headed to the Inn at Costa Mesa where he was staying. As he crossed in front of oncoming southbound traffic on Harbor Boulevard south of Gisler Street, he was struck by a car driven by Kay Grim, 64, of Costa Mesa. A few seconds later he was struck by a van driven by Earl Willis, 76, also of Costa Mesa.
The third car, which police described as a dark SUV-type vehicle, struck the victim, slowed momentarily and then left the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Fire Department paramedics.
