A conservation group plans to rescue 7,500 turtles that were confiscated in Hong Kong before they could be eaten.
The $3.2-million shipment of turtles was seized two weeks ago because most of the animals were considered endangered or otherwise vulnerable.
After the turtles are shipped to the U.S., treated and cataloged, the Turtle Survival Alliance will place them in zoos and other centers.
"This is our first trial by fire," said Rick Hudson, a conservation biologist at the Fort Worth Zoo who helped form the alliance last year.
"We've got our work cut out for us."
