Entertainment Site Z.com Is Broke, Will Shut Down

February 13, 2001|Greg Miller

Adding to the casualty list in the online entertainment sector, Z.com said it has run out of money and will shut down. The Burbank-based company was launched last year and attracted as many as 750,000 visitors a month with short films and animations aimed at adolescent and college-age audiences. Chief Executive Joe DiNunzio said Z.com should be able to cover its debts of less than $1 million by selling its shows, equipment and Internet addresses, including http://www.comedy.com. The company has only five full-time employees, down from 90 in October, when it began a series of layoffs and cutbacks.
