February 20, 2001|From a Times Staff Writer

A partnership that includes Santa Monica-based Watt Commercial Properties plans to break ground in May on a 389-unit high-rise apartment complex in downtown San Diego.

The downtown redevelopment authority gave its final approval to the project, which consist of 18-story twin towers that will be built on a city block near the Little Italy district.

The ground floor will include live-work spaces that will resemble townhouses.

The $75-million project, which is designed by architectural firm RTKL, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2002.

Watt's partner in the project is Fidelity Management Trust Co., which is working on behalf of an institutional client.
