TV Newscasts Resume as Protest Continues

January 11, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

Newscasts by rebellious journalists at Czech Television resumed after management agreed to stop blacking them out, but the journalists vowed to continue their protest until all their demands are met. Newscaster Adam Komers said on air that the dissident reporters welcomed management's decision but still want the state-run station's new director, Jiri Hodac, and his team to step down. The journalists have been holed up in the station's newsroom since Dec. 20, demanding that Hodac be fired. They charge that his appointment was politically biased.
