A taxi driver in the San Gabriel Valley community of East Valinda was found shot dead in his cab Monday afternoon, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the 17600 block of Gemini Street just north of the city of Industry about 3:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found the victim slumped over the steering wheel of his cab, the engine running, said Deputy Cruz Solis.
Witnesses who heard the shots said they ran outside and saw a man running from the scene.
Representatives of the Covina-based AAA Yellow Cab Co., which employed the victim, said he had been dispatched to pick up a fare in the area where he was killed. They were unsure whether any passengers had been picked up or whether there had been a robbery.
Police declined to release the victim's identity pending notification of his family.
