Valery Polyansky will replace Mark Ermler as the conductor of the Bolshoi Symphony on March 10 and 11 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. Ermler is ill and unable to join the orchestra on its upcoming United States tour.
Polyansky, born in Moscow in 1949, has been a principal conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre since 1977.
The programs will remain unchanged. On March 10, Polyansky will conduct Tchaikovsky's Coronation March and Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2. On March 11, he will lead Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, Prokofiev's Symphony No. 2 and the Prelude from Mussorgsky's "Khovanshchina."
