42 Killed, 48 Injured When Buses Collide

Two buses collided in eastern Punjab province, killing 42 passengers and injuring 48 others, several of them seriously, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan news agency reported.

The accident occurred near Pattoki, 36 miles southwest of Lahore, the provincial capital, when one bus sought to overtake the other. The injured were taken to hospitals in Lahore.

The dead included 17 children, the news agency quoted police as saying. Police were investigating the accident.
