Fullerton's city manager says his city turned off the fountain in front of City Hall, and the twinkling lights along Harbor Boulevard that beckon visitors. Newport-Mesa Unified school officials say they have reduced electricity usage by cutting off heat to large swimming pools and gymnasiums.
These are some of the gestures to save power by local government entities, and which contribute in some way to efforts to conserve power as part of the response around the state to the emergency crisis. Delaine Eastin, state superintendent of public instruction, has urged county and district superintendents to come up with emergency conservation plans, and they should follow this good advice.
