County, 2 Cities Honored for Recycling Programs

California Resource Recovery Assn. honored the county and two cities as part of its state recycling awards program.

Each year, the volunteer recycling organization recognizes private firms, public agencies and individuals for achievements in waste reduction, recycling and hazardous waste services.

Ventura County received the Outstanding Reuse Program award for its Restore Program, which sells used building materials and supplies. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Thousand Oaks earned the Outstanding Hazardous Waste Reduction award for its hazardous waste collection program, which is the largest of its kind in the county.

Oxnard was honored with the Outstanding Computer/Electronics Diversion Program award for its Todd Road Jail Computer Repair Program, which offers inmates computer repair and other vocational training.
