Are There Many Environmental Differences?

Environmentally, the differences between wood and steel framing are not significant.

Wood promoters call their product "the only renewable resource" and point out the environmental devastation associated with iron ore excavation and smelting.

Steel promoters push the idea of framing a home with a few recycled Chevys instead of an acre of trees.

Environmental Building News looked at the environmental implications of using wood and steel for residential framing and concluded that wood framing, if it was from a well-managed forest, would be the better environmental choice.
