Gay & Lesbian Center Is Still Going Strong

July 15, 2001

I'd like to commend you for the insightful article "A Guide to Where L.A.'s Gays Came of Age" (July 8). It offers a snapshot of the significant contributions the diverse and vibrant lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community has made to Los Angeles and the civil rights movement.

While I was glad to see that the article mentioned the location where the first gay and lesbian community center was founded, I want to reassure Angelenos that it still continues to serve the community 30 years later.

Today, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center is the world's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organization with a budget of $37 million and a wide variety of free or low-cost health, legal, employment, educational, cultural and social programs. Each year we received nearly a quarter million visits from ethnically diverse youth and adults. Thousands more access information through our Web site at http://www.laglc.org. We are proud of our place in Los Angeles' history and look forward to our future together.
