Libraries to Close for Remodeling Work

July 21, 2001

A number of libraries will close their doors this summer in a citywide project to remodel outdated buildings, library officials said.

Today will be the last day of operation for the Valley Plaza Branch Library in North Hollywood.

The West Valley Regional Branch Library in Reseda will close July 28, and the Sun Valley Branch Library will close Aug. 11.

They will all reopen in fall 2002, library officials said.

The North Hollywood Regional Branch Library will close Aug. 4 and is expected to reopen next summer.

Other branch libraries in the city have already closed for construction, including Woodland Hills, Palms, Palisades, Mark Twain and Arroyo Seco in Los Angeles and Mar Vista in West Los Angeles.

Most are expected to reopen between fall 2002 and winter 2003.

During construction, patrons will be served by temporary buildings, bookmobiles or nearby libraries.

The projects are being financed by Proposition DD, a $178.3-million library bond measure approved by voters in 1998 to refurbish or rebuild 32 libraries citywide.
