2000-01 Child Support Collections Up 8.7%

July 21, 2001|From staff reports

Child support collections increased by $3.8 million during the last fiscal year, thanks to a good economy and more investigators, the Ventura County district attorney's office has reported.

Stan Trom, who heads the district attorney's child support division, said higher employment rates have made it easier to collect money from salaries. He also said the department is almost fully staffed with 300 full-time employees whose sole mission is to recover child support.

"A key factor in all of this is a strong economy," Trom said.

The total amount collected in the last fiscal year was $47,782,444, an 8.7% increase over the amount collected in 1999-2000, he said.

Dist. Atty. Michael Bradbury said collections have increased by 27.5% over the last three years.
