200 Gather to Mark Concorde Crash Date

July 26, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

With long and tearful hugs, family members and friends gathered under a scorching sun in the Paris suburb of Gonesse to remember the 113 people who died when an Air France Concorde, trailing fuel and fire, crashed seconds after takeoff from Charles de Gaulle Airport.

About 200 people tossed flowers at the spot where the supersonic jet slammed into a small hotel July 25 of last year.

"We had to come back here," said Sarah Bodrelot, who was a receptionist at Hotelissimo, where four people died. "We needed to get through this step."
