Sklar Scales Back His Disney Imagineering Duties

July 27, 2001|Richard Verrier

Longtime Walt Disney Co. executive Marty Sklar is scaling back his duties at Walt Disney Imagineering, one of the company's most important divisions. Sklar, 67, will no longer run the creative team at Disney's research and development arm.

Tom Fitzgerald, who is executive vice president of theme park productions, will take over the day-to-day management.

The move is intended to give Sklar more time to focus on upcoming theme park projects and plan for the 50th anniversary at Disneyland, a Disney spokeswoman said. Disney is said to be grooming Fitzgerald, 44, as a possible successor to Sklar. Sklar, a 40-year Disney veteran, will continue to oversee the team that designs Disney's attractions and hotels.
