Tustin's Smith Signs With Cal State Fullerton

Tustin middle distance runner Alonso Smith, in Sacramento preparing for the state track and field finals, has signed with Cal State Fullerton, according to university officials.

Smith, the Southern Section Division II champion in the 800 and 1,600 meters, is competing in the 800 in Sacramento.

The Titans also signed sprinter Marcia Fenton from L.A. Dorsey. She is the City Section champion in the 100 meters and a member of Dorsey's city championship 400-meter relay team. She is competing in both events at the state meet today and Saturday.


Tickets for the Southern Section Division I, II and III championship baseball games Saturday at Dodger Stadium are $8 for adult general admission and $4 for children under 12. Tickets for students are $4 and are available only at the school on a presale basis.

Third-seeded El Dorado plays top-seeded Westlake Village Westlake in Division III at 1 p.m., Edison plays fourth-seeded Riverside Poly in Division II at 4:30, and Capistrano Valley plays fourth-seeded Long Beach Millikan in Division I at 7:30.


The three Southern Section softball championship games featuring teams from Orange County will be played Saturday at Barber Park in Irvine.

Fourth-seeded Orange Lutheran will play second-ranked Lancaster Paraclete for the Division V title at 10 a.m.;El Modena will face top-seeded Whittier La Serna at 1 p.m. for the Division III title, and Esperanza will play Rancho Cucamonga at 7:30 for the Division I championship.

Also Saturday, San Dimas will play Lompoc at 4:30 for the Division IV title.

Two divisions will be decided tonight at Barber Park with the Division VI game between top-seeded Oaks Christian and third-seeded Temecula Linfield at 5, and the Division II game between Whittier California and Thousand Oaks at 7:30.

General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for children. Presale tickets at participating schools for students are $3. Prices for presale tickets for adults and children will be the same as they are on site. Gates open at 4:15 p.m. Friday and 9:15 a.m. Saturday.


The 25th Mohs Memorial Orange County high school volleyball all-star games will be tonight at Edison High. The girls' game begins at 6 and the boys' game at 7:30. Admission is $5.
