Sunken Fishing Boat's Owner Will Not Testify

The owner of the fishing vessel Arctic Rose, which sank in the Bering Sea with 15 men aboard, will not testify before the Coast Guard panel investigating the loss, the panel's chairman announced.

Dave Olney, owner of Arctic Sole Seafoods, wept as his lawyer told the Marine Board of Investigation he would not respond to questions, citing his 5th Amendment rights.

The 92-foot Arctic Rose went down early April 2 without sending a distress call. In previous testimony, witnesses have raised concerns about safety training on the boat, poor morale among crew members and problems with the boat taking on water.
