B'nai Emet to Host Purim Carnival

* B'nai Emet will host its Purim carnival, with games, food and raffle prizes, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at 3050 Kadota St., Simi Valley.

On March 17, the temple will present an evening of Broadway music staged with members of the Young Artists Ensemble at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi. Show time : 7 p.m. $35.

Academy Offers Series on Holidays

* The Conejo Jewish Academy will present the final two installments of a series focusing on the upcoming Purim and Passover holidays. Course work in "The Holidays of Redemption" will cover the historical significance of the holidays. Installments will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday and March 21. $18. Ojai Valley Adventist Sermon Series

* Pastor David Smith of Ojai Valley Adventist Church will continue a sermon series titled "Your Most Radical Decision" today. The 10th installment, "Assurance in a Bowl of Spaghetti," will focus on the often-discussed Christian concept of "once saved, always saved."

Services are held at 10:45 a.m. each Saturday and include contemporary and traditional Christian music. Bible study begins at 9:30 a.m.

Ventura Temple to Hold Carnival

* Temple Beth Torah in Ventura will hold a Purim carnival from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Activities will includes games, prizes and food. Event-goers are encouraged to bring a canned food donation for needy families.

The temple will hold its monthly Tot Shabbat session at 7 p.m. Friday.

Musician to Perform in Ventura

* Contemporary Christian music artist Bryan Duncan will perform this weekend during services at South Coast Fellowship in Ventura. Services are at 6 p.m. today and at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Handicapables Host Special Day

* The West Ventura County Handicapables will host a day of spiritual and social enrichment today at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura.

Registration and get-acquainted time are at 11 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:30. A luncheon, with entertainment, will follow the service. People of all faiths are welcome. For information, call 452-4050 or 648-6686.

Church Plans 'Bread of Life' Dinner

* All Saints Episcopal Church in Oxnard will hold a "Bread of Life" dinner for the homeless at 5:30 p.m. today in the parish hall.

On Sunday, a communion worship service will be held at 8 a.m. A Spanish-language worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Also, Sunday school classes for children ages 5 to 12 begin at 10:30 a.m.; youth Bible study for junior high and high school students begins at 11 a.m.

Temple Offers Service, Parade

* Temple Ner Ami in Camarillo will celebrate the Purim holiday on Sunday with a service at 11 a.m., followed by a costume parade. From noon to 3 p.m., the temple's first Purim carnival will offer games, prizes, food and entertainment.

Lenten Sermon Focuses on 'Joy'

* The Rev. Lynne Austin will continue a Lenten sermon series Sunday with a message titled "Joy" at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Newbury Park. Worship services are at 8:30 and 10 a.m.

Methodists to Gather for Services

* Pastor Rob Calderhead will give a sermon titled "The Long Run" on Sunday at United Methodist Church of Westlake Village. Camarillo Center Plans Workshop

* The Pleasant Valley Center for Positive Living in Camarillo will present a four-part workshop drawing on ideas from the Carolyn Myss book "Anatomy of the Spirit," plus Christian sacraments and other spiritual literature. The two-hour sessions will be led by the Rev. Marilyn Jensen-Johnson. Noon meeting dates are Sunday, March 25, April 8 and April 22. Preregistration is required. Cost: $10 per session.
