Pierre Gauthier, team president and general manager, continued to retool the Ducks Tuesday, dealing veteran defenseman Jason Marshall to the Washington Capitals for minor league defenseman Alexei Tezikov and a fourth-round draft pick. Tezikov was assigned to Cincinnati of the American Hockey League.
Marshall, 30, will become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and Gauthier was concerned about re-signing him. Marshall played 347 games for the Ducks and has three goals and seven points in 50 games this season.
"We have a player [Marshall] who's unrestricted and we have no intention of re-signing him," Gauthier said. "We might as well get something for him. We might as well get an asset."
Tezikov, 6 feet 1 and 208 pounds, has spent all of 2000-01 in the minors, scoring seven goals and 31 points in 58 games for Portland, Maine, of the AHL.
