Kim Replaces Nearly Half of His Cabinet

March 26, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

South Korean President Kim Dae Jung replaced nearly half his Cabinet today in an effort to allay public discontent with the economy and other domestic issues.

One of the most prominent resignations was that of Foreign Minister Lee Joung Binn, who was held responsible for several policy fumbles related to Kim's delicate rapprochement process with North Korea.

A presidential spokesman said nine of 22 ministers were replaced.
