Body of Man Found Near Trash Bin in Los Alamitos

May 30, 2001

The body of a man, wrapped in a blanket, bound with tape and left next to a trash bin, was found in a Los Alamitos alley Tuesday, authorities said.

Trash disposal workers discovered the body at the Los Alamitos Business Park at Cerritos Avenue and Los Alamitos Boulevard about 6:30 a.m., said police Capt. Todd Mattern.

"We've determined he [was] a male adult, but we've not determined his identity," Mattern said. "My guess is he's in his 20s, but we don't know for sure. We do not know the cause of death. We are treating it as a homicide."

The body carried no identification. Mattern said he believed the body was dumped Monday night.

Investigators are working with the coroner's office and Sheriff's Department crime lab to identify the victim and determine the cause of death, he said.

Investigators have interviewed workers in nearby businesses, Mattern said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday or this morning.
