"Skateboard Tough" by Matt Christopher

Brett and his family had just moved to Springton. While they were digging, they found a skateboard. Written on it was "The Lizard."

Brett tries out the skateboard and finds that he can do tricks he couldn't do before. His friend tells him the history of the board. It used to belong to Lance Hawker, a champion skateboarder who was run over by a car and died.

Brett wishes for a safe place for skateboarders to ride. He writes a letter to the city saying they should have a skateboarding arena. Mrs. Weatherspoon, an old lady who everyone thought was mean, gives Brett and his friends a big surprise. She has the skateboard arena built in her backyard.

Then, Brett gets a postcard from Lance Hawker telling him to bury the skateboard.
