Whittier Christian 2, L.A. Baptist 1--The Knights botched a potential inning-ending double play in the seventh, allowing the winning run, and had a baserunner picked off in the bottom of the inning at Mission Hills Senior Little League field.

Whittier Christian (17-12) managed only five hits against Andrew Petersen (6-1).

Petersen struck out four and walked none. He worked out of a jam in the first inning and hit a run-scoring single to tie the score, 1-1, in the fifth.

In the seventh, Petersen induced a ground ball with one out and runners on first and third. Second baseman Tim Hubbard dropped the ball, allowing Robert Alexander to score.

Joey Conrad struck out four and scattered 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings for Whittier Christian.

Conrad was helped by his defense.

Center fielder Anthony Ruiz threw out Bryan Petersen at home to end an L.A. Baptist threat in the fifth. Catcher Anthony Esquer picked off Brett Emma after he led off the seventh with a single for the Knights.

Josh Flynn had a two-out double in the seventh for L.A. Baptist but Anthony Villa relieved Conrad and got a grounder by Bryan Petersen for the final out.

Esquer gave Whittier Christian a 1-0 lead in the third, driving in Ruiz with a groundout to third.

Andrew Petersen, Emma and Bryan Petersen each had two hits for L.A. Baptist.
