Tino Martinez singles down the first base line, O'Neill takes third but holds there as the ball caroms off a wall in foul territory and directly to right fielder Reggie Sanders. 5. Jorge Posada strikes out swinging. OUT THREE. No runs, one hit, two left.

SECOND INNING

Arizona--1. Erubiel Durazo flies to center. OUT ONE. 2. Matt Williams strikes out swinging. OUT TWO. 3. Steve Finley strikes out swinging. OUT THREE. No runs, no hits, none left.

New York--1. Shane Spencer strikes out swinging. OUT ONE. 2. David Justice grounds to short. OUT TWO. 3. Scott Brosius hits a ground ball to the right of second baseman Craig Counsell, who makes a diving stop and throws him out. OUT THREE. No runs, no hits.

THIRD INNING

Arizona--1. Reggie Sanders strikes out swinging. OUT ONE. 2. On a full count, Mark Grace walks. 3. Rod Barajas, a .160 hitter starting only because Damian Miller is scratched with a strained calf, singles to center in his first postseason at-bat, Grace taking second. 4. Womack flies to left. New York--1. Alfonso Soriano singles to left. 2. On a 1-and-0 pitch to Derek Jeter, Soriano tries to steal second, Barajas throws him out. OUT ONE. Jeter strikes out swinging. OUT TWO. 3. O'Neill grounds to short. OUT THREE. No runs, one hit, none left.

FOURTH INNING

Arizona--1. Gonzalez pops to second. OUT ONE. 2. Durazo strikes out swinging. OUT TWO. 3. Williams lines to third. OUT THREE. No runs, no hits.

New York--1. Williams walks. 2. Martinez pops to first. OUT ONE. 3. Posada grounds into a 4-6-3 double play, Counsell to Womack to Grace. OUTS TWO AND THREE. No runs, no hits.

FIFTH INNING

Arizona--1. Finley hits a home run to right field. At this point in the World Series, Finley has scored four runs and the Yankees have scored seven. Diamondbacks lead, 1-0. 2. Sanders strikes out swinging. OUT ONE. 3. Grace grounds to first. OUT TWO. 4. Barajas, quickly becoming the latest unlikely World Series hero, hits a home run to left field. Mike Mussina has now given up as many home runs in one inning as he did in his final 72 innings during the regular season. Diamondbacks lead, 2-0. 5. Womack strikes out swinging. OUT THREE. Diamondbacks 2, Yankees 0.

New York--1. Spencer grounds toward center field, Counsell makes a nice diving stop but bounces his throw to first, Spencer reaches base on an infield single. 2. Miguel Batista throws a wild pitch, Spencer takes second. Justice strikes out swinging. OUT ONE. 3. Brosius flies to right. OUT TWO. 4. Soriano grounds to third. OUT THREE. No runs, one hit, one left.

SIXTH INNING

Arizona--1. Counsell grounds to second. OUT ONE. 2. Gonzalez flies to center. OUT TWO. 3. Durazo grounds to Mussina, who tags him out. OUT THREE. No runs, no hits, none left.

New York--1. With the Diamondbacks trying to preserve a lead in the World Series, Albie Lopez and Troy Brohawn are warming up in their bullpen. Seriously. Jeter singles to center. 2. O'Neill grounds to second, Counsell tags out Jeter and throws to first to complete the double play. OUTS ONE AND TWO. 3. Williams grounds to second. OUT THREE. No runs, one hit, none left.

SEVENTH INNING

Arizona--1. Williams grounds to third. OUT ONE. 2. Finley singles to right; he and Barajas have the only hits off Mussina to this point. 3. Sanders strikes out looking. OUT TWO. 4. Mussina throws a wild pitch, Finley takes second. With first base now open, Mussina walks Grace intentionally. 5. Barajas lines to left. OUT THREE. No runs, one hit, two left.

New York--1. Martinez grounds to the pitcher. OUT ONE. 2. Posada strikes out swinging. OUT TWO. 3. On a full count, Spencer walks. 4. On a full count, Justice walks, Spencer takes second. 5. Chuck Knoblauch runs for Justice. Brosius flies to right. No runs, no hits, two left.

EIGHTH INNING

Arizona--1. Womack singles to center. 2. Womack steals second, then takes third when Posada's throw bounces into center. Counsell grounds to first. OUT ONE. 3. Mussina falls behind 3-and-0, but Gonzalez strikes out swinging. OUT TWO. 4. Mussina walks Durazo intentionally. 5. Williams pops to second. OUT THREE. No runs, one hit, one error, two left.

New York--1. Soriano grounds to second. OUT ONE. 2. Jeter strikes out swinging. OUT TWO. 3. O'Neill walks. 4. Williams pops to shallow left and the ball glances off Womack's glove for a single, O'Neill takes third. 5. Greg Swindell relieves Batista, who has tied his career high by making 126 pitches. Martinez flies to left. No runs, one hit, two left.
