A 14-year-old Oxnard boy suffered serious head injuries Saturday when he was struck by an on-duty cab driver driving under the influence of a controlled substance, police said Sunday.

Jose Palomares was being treated at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Hospital officials said he was still there late Sunday but they refused to release his condition.
