Gamble House's Docent Council is accepting applications for it annual docent training classes, which begin in the new year. Docents lead tours of the Gamble House, a National Historic Landmark in Pasadena. For more information, please call: (626) 793-3334.

Five Acres Boys' and Girls' Aid Society of Los Angeles, based in Altadena, needs couples or single people interested in becoming foster parents. A foster parent orientation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday . There is a special need for people who know sign language to foster deaf children. * Palos Verdes Land Conservancy needs volunteers to pull weeds and remove invasive non-native plants from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Lunada Canyon. * Food on Foot, a nonprofit group dedicated to feeding, clothing and helping to find work for the homeless in Los Angeles, needs volunteers to help distribute prepackaged food and clothing in Venice on Saturdays and in Hollywood on Sundays for one hour. Information: (310) 442-0088.

* Reading Is Fundamental of Southern California, a nonprofit group that works with elementary schools in literacy throughout the Los Angeles area, needs a certified public accountant to sit on the board of directors as treasurer.
