Jury Clears D.A. of Staffer's Sex Bias Claim

November 11, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

A jury has cleared Sonoma County Dist. Atty. Mike Mullins of a discrimination complaint filed by a veteran investigator.

Jurors said Friday that they hope "positive actions . . . minimize the likelihood of such cases coming before a jury again."

The action was filed by investigator April Chapman, who accused prosecutor Bruce Enos of sexual harassment. Chapman said Mullins retaliated by assigning her to a menial job after she complained about Enos.

She also said Mullins violated her privacy and county policy by conducting his own investigation into the matter, rather than allowing the personnel department to handle it.

Chapman had asked for $650,000 in damages.

Mullins suspended Enos for a week without pay after Chapman's complaint. She took a four-month leave and has been reassigned to the high-tech crime unit.
