Enrichment Through Employment in Torrance, which provides adult clients recovering from mental illness the skills needed for entering the work force, needs volunteers to teach computer classes, help write resumes and prepare clients for job interviews. * Child Advocates Office of Los Angeles County Superior Court needs volunteers, appointed by the Dependency Court, to advocate for children who have been removed from homes because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Volunteers, who must be 25 or older, will evaluate circumstances, investigate resources and make recommendations to the court. A one-year commitment and completion of 36 hours of training are required. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed. Application deadline is Jan. 8. Information: (323) 526-6666.

* Cheer for Children, based in Redondo Beach, which brings holiday cheer to acutely ill, disabled and hospitalized children with clowns and other entertainment and by visiting them, is holding an orientation meeting Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce. Also, the group is collecting items at various locations between Nov. 23 and Dec. 23 for needy children, including clothes, toys, crayons and coloring books and toiletry items. * Hollywood Christmas Parade needs more than 200 volunteers ages 21 and older to coordinate flats, work in the grandstands, conduct traffic flow and many other duties for the 70th annual event to be held Nov. 25. A one-hour orientation will be held Nov. 24. Information: (323) 469-2337.

* Interfaith Action for Aging needs volunteers to deliver Thanksgiving dinner to elderly shut-ins in the Long Beach area from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day. Information: (562) 492-9878.

* Honeywell Challenger Learning Center, on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, provides fifth-to eighth-grade students the opportunity to experience hands-on simulated space flights. A volunteer is needed to schedule missions and perform clerical tasks Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, six to 10 hours a week.
