Back at the Ranch, Bush Signs Stopgap Bill

November 18, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

President Bush signed legislation funding the government through Dec. 7, giving the White House and Congress more time to complete fiscal 2002 spending bills.

The White House announced the signing in a statement from Crawford, Texas, where Bush is spending a long weekend at his ranch.

The stopgap legislation is the fifth such legislation needed for fiscal year 2002, which began Oct. 1. So far, Congress has completed work on eight of 13 annual spending bills, and Bush has signed five of them.
