November 21, 2001|From Times Wire Reports

Excavations for a business park in central China have uncovered more than 1,000 tombs, some dating back nearly 3,000 years, the official New China News Agency reported.

More than 100 ancient bronzes and 3,000 pieces of pottery were recovered from the tombs near Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, the agency said. They were uncovered during construction of the Zhengzhou High Technology Development Zone.

The oldest of the tombs date to the Western Zhou Dynasty, which stretched from about 1046 BC to 771 BC. The bronzes include caldrons, grain containers and cups used for drinking or warming wine.
