School Bond Measure Narrowly Wins Approval

The Los Angeles County clerk's office Monday certified the results of Palmdale's $25-million school bond decision, granting victory to a measure that appeared headed for defeat in the days after the Nov. 6 election.

Measure W, which needed 55% approval to pass, received 55.2% of the 6,971 votes cast, county clerk spokeswoman Grace Chavez said.

Diana Beard-Williams, a leader of anti-bond forces, said she will not request a recount.

The bond money will help build two schools in the overcrowded Palmdale School District.
