Tentative Pact Would Give Teachers 6% Raises

November 29, 2001|From Times Staff Reports

Newport-Mesa Unified School District and its teachers union said Wednesday that they have reached a tentative agreement on a contract that would raise teachers' salaries about 6%.

Most of the district's 1,000 teachers will get the increase, while beginning teachers and those with 28 years or more of experience will get slightly more.

The two-year contract must be ratified by union members, who will vote Friday, and district trustees, who vote Dec. 11.

The district serves nearly 22,000 students in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.
